Announces History Day Event on May 19
Lead Sponsor, Stony Point Ruritan, Commemorates its 50th Anniversary
What
The Stony Point Community, located on Route 20 North, between Charlottesvilleand Barboursville, enjoys a proud history, dating from the early 1700s, as a crossroads community, which grew up around famous inns, mills, churches and general stores. For centuries, travelers passed through Stony Pointon this famous North/South route between Charlottesvilleand Washington, DC, also known earlier as Coursey’s Road or Presidents Road.
The Stony Point History Day will display exhibits of historical maps, documents and photos that bring together the collective history of the Stony Point Community. Exhibits will present documents gathered from local community members and historical sources, including the Albemarle Charlottesville Historical Society and UVA’s Small Special Collections Library.
Speakers will be on hand to share memories and stories from Stony Pointlife over the years, including a reading from an early 1900s Diary by a farmer who lived in the historical home Edgemont.

The CharlottesvilleMunicipal Band opens its 90th Summer Concert season on Tuesday, May 22 at 8:00 pmwith a FREE Concert at the
Paramount Theater on the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville.
Children ages 5 – 12 can participate in the band’s second annual Band Marks program. For each initial a
participant gets following a concert, their name is entered into a drawing for a $500.00
U.S.Savings Bond at the end of the season.
